Minimum Starting Salary: $3,100/monthly

Under the general supervision of the Academic Excellence (ACE) Program Director, the Math/Physics Discussion Section Instructor performs teaching, advising, and administrative duties in support of the ACE Program. This is a non-academic position.
The program's mission is to increase the diversity of students graduating with bachelor's degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Toward accomplishing this goal, the Section Leader will:
1. Facilitate small-group, intensive, collaborative discussion sections, hold office hours for individual or small group support or advising, and conduct review sessions for entry level math/physics coursework.
2. Monitor individual student academic progress (exam scores, etc.) in course(s). Advocate for students who are in jeopardy as well as those who are not: intervene/make referrals, when necessary, and suggest internships/research, when appropriate.
3. Provide direct supervision of and professional development for ACE math/physics co-leaders/mentors.
Qualifications include:
-Ability to work in a multicultural setting including sensitivity to the special educational needs of underrepresented minority and educationally disadvantaged students pursuing degrees in math/physics and science related fields
-Conceptual and practical knowledge of math/physics, such as attained through a STEM bachelor's or a combination of education and experience
-Ability to lead/teach intensive student workshops; to motivate students to learn and excel in math/physics coursework
-Demonstrated written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
-Demonstrated organizational, time management and problem solving skills
