TT at Smith College

Editor's note: this position is open to candidates with an engineering education scholarly focus.

The Picker Engineering Program at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professor of Engineering. Appointment to begin July 2012. We seek candidates with expertise in any technical area of engineering. Faculty and student research currently addresses contemporary issues in engineering with applications in energy, the environment, human health, and education. Responsibilities include teaching four courses per year, developing an active research program, and advising student research. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in engineering or a closely related discipline and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. Candidates with postdoctoral or other substantial experience and demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations are preferred.

The Picker Engineering Program is located in a newly constructed, LEED®-certified, 400,000 square-foot science and engineering building with state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities. This ABET-accredited engineering program is uniquely situated within a
liberal arts college and is the nation's first and only such program at a women's college. The program strives to prepare our diverse engineering student body, from 33 U.S. states and 24 countries, for global citizenship and a sustainable future. Graduates have gone on to leadership positions in industry, non-profit organizations, government, and higher education. Smith College is located in the vibrant community of Northampton in the scenic Pioneer Valley and is a member of the Five College Consortium that includes Amherst, Hampshire, and Mount Holyoke Colleges and the University of Massachusetts.
