Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, a private Catholic, Dominican, college prep high school for young women, is seeking a full-time high school integrated science, chemistry or physics teacher to teach honors chemistry and physics. Successful candidates must prioritize safety in the lab, complete a safety certification and be willing to teach using active-learning modalities, such as Process Oriented Guiding Inquiry Learning (POGIL) and/or inquiry based labs or case studies. The teacher must be willing to follow a pre-defined curriculum in their first year. A successful candidate will be ready to consider emerging technologies to enhance learning and student engagement. We are looking for a teacher who is open and willing to participate in the school community outside the classroom and is willing to support the mission of the school.
FSHA educators are members of a dynamic learning environment. They are engaged in a 1:1 MacBook program, curriculum/ programming redesign and mapping, and teacher-driven professional learning communities. In addition to developing and delivering an intentionally designed curriculum dedicated to teaching and learning in a supportive and collegial atmosphere, our faculty shares out on best practices and instructional technology strategies via blogs, small group learning sessions, and visits to each other’s classrooms.
Requirements:
BA or BS in Chemistry or Physics or related discipline required
Minimum 1 year high school teaching experience.
Experience with innovative teaching strategies; such as POGIL, inquiry labs and/or case studies.
Able and eager to collaborate with colleagues
Experience with instructional technology
Excellent classroom management, communication and organization skills
Ability to connect with parents, students, and colleagues in a professional way
Able to convey a love of science and obtain positive results
