Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Iowa State University seeks qualified applicants for a Teaching Laboratory Coordinator. This position manages and coordinates the functions and operation of the undergraduate Physics teaching laboratory program for 200+ laboratory sections per academic year. Responsibilities include the management of the budget, purchase and inventory control of laboratory materials and equipment, lab safety, maintenance of equipment, computers and supplies, and the supervision of graduate teaching assistants and a laboratory mechanical technologist. Responsibilities include the design and modification of weekly laboratory activities, the safety training required by Environmental Health and Safety and OSHA. Additional duties for this position require the development, management, and integration of online course material in Turning Point 5/Blackboard and on the World Wide Web, as well as, the integration of student educational software directly in the laboratory.
The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, superior organizational skills. The candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a great diversity of people, including enrolled students and colleagues on the instructional team.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 1 year of related experience.
