VAP at Rowan University

The Rowan University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position beginning Fall 2010, with possible renewal for a second year. The position is contingent upon budget appropriations. We seek candidates who are interested in teaching physics at both the beginning and advanced levels. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the current research programs within our department. A Ph.D. degree in Physics is preferred, but ABD may be considered. Teaching experience is a plus.

The department consists of 10 faculty members, a laboratory coordinator, an instrument coordinator, and a secretary. We have eight active research facilities that foster student/faculty collaborative research including labs for magnetics, physical properties, thin film fabrication, microscopy, ultrafast spectroscopy, laser cooling, computational physics, planetary science, and astrophysics. TT at Univ. of Nebraska at Kearney

Postdoc at University of Calgary

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research, Development and Teaching position in Physics Education Research in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (www.phas.ucalgary.ca). This is initially a one-year position, although it may be extended to a second year. A start date of July 1, 2010 is targeted for this position. The position will be focused on the development, implementation, and efficacy evaluation of labatorial exercises in a 1st year service course in Electromagnetism for students in Engineering, and will include instruction of this course in the summer and winter terms. Labatorials1 are the University of Calgary implementation of some of the ideas commonly associated with Studio Physics. These two hour weekly small group sessions utilize mini-experiments, PhET- or Physlet-based exercises, and demonstration-based tutorials to complement student learning in clicker-based, large-section, lecture sessions. The candidate selected for this position is expected to be involved in the instruction of these courses, as well as working with other faculty and graduate students on labatorial development and assessment, including publication of the results of these pedagogical implementations.

Applicants must have teaching experience and an interest in physics education. Experience in the field of Physics Education Research would be an asset.

TT at Concord University

Concord University seeks applicants for a tenure-track position effective August 2010 to teach introductory physics, upper-level courses, and physical science. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics. Specialization is open, but candidates with interests in geophysics, physics education, nanotechnology, or medical physics are encouraged. The position supports a physics minor and majors in life sciences, chemistry, geology, and computer science. Concord is a liberal-arts university located in southern WV.

Lecturer at University of New England

The Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of New England, Biddeford Maine, invites applications for a physics lecturer effective September 1, 2010. Candidates must have at least a Masters in Physics or related field, and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level. The position includes 18 contact hours of instruction (three studio physics sections each meeting 6 hours weekly). Preference will be given to candidates with experience or training in guided inquiry techniques such as Modeling Instruction, CPU Project, PRISMS, PHYSlab or Workshop Physics.
Facilities and Approach:
We use the modeling approach to physics instruction (modeling.asu.edu) adapted and implemented for use in the algebra-based college physics environment. The brand new Morgane Hall houses our two state-of-the-art physics labs each with a capacity of 24 students. Each lab has eight stations - three students/computer, Vernier LabPro interfaces, a range of probes, and LoggerPro software. 24 lab activities have been developed to cover the approximately 26 weeks of physics instruction.

Director at Center for Technology Innovation

The Center for Technology Innovation (CTI) at the Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) designs, develops, and supports technology products and services to satisfy specific educational needs in all learning environments. CTI is responsible for producing research-based deliverables that meet the high standards of both internal and external partners in a timely and cost-effective manner.

We are in search of an Creative Producer who will provide leadership and expertise in the development and coordination of educational technology products and programs with a focus on nanotechnology education. The appointee will fill the position of Research Director for the center. In this capacity, the appointee will: 1) direct the Southwestern node of the Nanotechnology Informal Science Education (NISE) network by organizing museum site-visits to demonstrate new outreach materials and attending professional conferences on behalf of LHS; 2) create a video capture mobile exhibit and website where educators, scientists, and students discuss their opinions about nanotechnology research; 3) develop rapid technology prototypes for exhibits, mobile devices, and websites in close partnership with CTI programmers to showcase cutting-edge scientific research at UC Berkeley and LHS K-12 science curricula; 4) add to the collaborative CTI design team for the user experience, interface architecture, and data tracking features across all educational technology projects within the center; 5) research and share the latest findings from commercial social network and mobile technology product development; 6) manage partner relationships and lead the writing process for new proposals to fund future social networking and mobile technology projects within CTI.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Masters in Educational Technology Development or the equivalent, and a minimum of 5 years experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating technology in an educational setting, is required for this position. Candidate must possess solid project management skills, including the ability to coordinate, negotiate, schedule, and communicate with all levels of staff. Candidate should have a prepared portfolio of websites, exhibits, table-top demonstrations, mobile applications, or other educational technology deliverables produced in previous positions. Candidate should have a demonstrated ability to design, lead and conduct reviews of educational technology products, communicate findings, make recommendations and implement quality-based, process improvements. Solid organization skills with a proven ability to multi-task, handle multiple assignments simultaneously, and effectively bring projects to closure are also required. Effective written and oral communication skills are strongly desired; especially demonstrated by a record of grant proposal work. Previous experience at a science museum or similar informal education venue is preferred.
