Cochise College invites applications for the full-time, faculty position of Instructor of Physics/Developmental Mathematics. This position is responsible for the instruction of physics and developmental mathematics courses and related labs. The position will work primarily from the Santa Cruz center but may teach classes district-wide as needed. Full time faculty members are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality instruction for students and performing instructional duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies and procedures of the college. 

Salary is dependent upon qualifications based on the faculty salary schedule. The college also offers a generous benefits package that includes medical, life, dental, vision, and disability insurance, retirement, and tuition assistance.

Essential Functions of Position	Include but are not limited to: teaching arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, statistics and other courses offered by the department; teaching in a variety of instructional settings and times (including days, evenings, and weekends); coordinating and overseeing the developmental mathematics offerings, assisting in the operation of the tutorial center at the Willow International Community College Center; serving on college and district committees; participating in student learning outcome development and assessment at all levels (course, program, and college); participating in curriculum development and program review; participating in the accreditation process; and otherwise fulfilling all the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required.
Minimum Qualifications	An earned master’s degree in mathematics or applied mathematics; OR bachelor’s degree in either of the above AND master’s degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education; OR a valid California Community College Credential; OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency); AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications	Teaching experiences including the breadth of courses taught, and the use of a variety of pedagogies; teaching experiences at the secondary or post-secondary level; experience with effectively integrating educational technology into classroom instruction; familiarity with the current curriculum and assessment standards in mathematics education as stated by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the American Math Association of Two Year Colleges (AMATYC); demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals; experience serving on campus committees; experience in the accreditation process; related work and professional experience; and potential for contributing to institutional vitality and growth.
Conditions of Employment	177 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits	Starting salary is $51,992 – $78,276 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $1,945 is available. In addition, the district offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Selection Procedure	Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates that meet the highest degree of desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview. The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services and Campus President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the Campus President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval. RESPONSIBILITIES:
The faculty member is primarily responsible for teaching a variety of developmental mathematics courses through Algebra II. However, the faculty member will also be required to teach mathematics credit courses at the 100 and 200 levels as needed, including, but not limited to, College Algebra, Contemporary Mathematics, Trigonometry, and Calculus I and II. The faculty member will also assist in developing divisional syllabi, divisional tests and quizzes, as well as divisional assessment projects related to program goals.

In addition, faculty members are expected to stay current in their disciplines and in teaching methodologies; implement changes in instruction based on assessment results; maintain reasonable, distributed office hours; develop and revise curriculum; mentor adjunct faculty; participate in a variety of college committees and task forces; and advise students as appropriate. Faculty members are also expected to demonstrate leadership skills in teaching, discipline activities and college service, as well as participate in community service.

This 10-month, tenure-track position is scheduled to begin August 2013.

REQUIREMENTS:

A master's degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a closely related math field such as physics, statistics, or mechanical engineering is required. Applicants must have two years of full-time teaching experience, effective communication skills, and experience using instructional technology. Applicants must be able to demonstrate ability in curriculum development, and development and execution of assessment projects related to learning. Teaching at the community college level and experience teaching developmental math students are highly desirable.

Candidates will be asked to validate full-time or part-time teaching experience.
