Curriculum & Assessment Specialist at Measured Progress

This position entails science test development responsibilities for customized large-scale educational assessment programs. Lecturer at UC Berkleley

Instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College

Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty, staff and instructional administrators to provide high quality services to our district, our community, and most importantly to our students. This is a full-time, regular contract faculty position at the Petaluma Campus of Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, August 2009. The Earth and Space Sciences Department is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic instructor to teach introductory Astronomy courses at the Petaluma campus. The successful candidate will be the second full-time Earth and Space Sciences faculty member on the Petaluma campus, and will be expected to assist in further developing the department on this campus. The department offers lecture and lab classes in both Stellar and Solar System Astronomy, as well as an observational field course. A typical assignment might include a combination of lecture and lab courses; however the specific assignment will vary depending upon department needs.

SRJC offers courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including on-line. Postdoc at UC-Boulder

stdoctoral Position in Physics Education Research (PER): The PhET
Interactive Simulations Project at the University of Colorado at Boulder has
a two-year postdoctoral position available. The PhET Team develops
research-based interactive simulations for teaching and learning physics,
chemistry, earth science, biology and math/statistics. Recently the project
has begun developing and researching activities that take advantage of the
unique features of simulations. All PhET simulations and activities are
freely available on the web. The projects Research focuses on understanding
aspects of simulation design and use that lead to increased student
engagement and learning. The two primary responsibilities of the successful
applicant will be to 1) carry out and publish research on simulations and 2)
work with a team to create new simulations with an expectation to coordinate
the development of 5-7 simulations per year. The role of a simulations
coordinator is to work with a professional programmer, teacher, content
specialist and interface specialist to determine the simulation learning
goals, design, content and underlying model. This position also includes
training teachers on use of PhET simulations through PhET workshops at local
and national meetings.

The candidate will be joining an active education research community at CU,
including a nationally-recognized PER group and a growing number of
education researchers within the chemistry, biology, integrative physiology
and geological science departments.

Master Teacher at Temple University

The College of Education (CoE), in collaboration with the College of Science and Technology (CST) at Temple University is seeking an adjunct Master Teacher for the TUteach program. This position is open as regards subject orientation, but the successful candidate will primarily be expected to contribute to the development of the research teams concerned with mathematics and/or the natural sciences/technology. We are looking for somebody with scientific competence as well as the interest and ability to actively contribute to the further development of a complete academic team, preferably within the areas of mathematics, the extended notion of literacy, and/or the natural sciences/technology, where aspects of education, research and outreach interact and support one another. You are expected to stimulate and contribute to a broad discussion regarding subject matter education across domains and to collaborate with other research teams within and outside of the department as well as throughout the university and with other universities. Other duties involve engaging in applying for research grants in collaboration with others, participating in teaching, course development as well as in supervision and examination of PhD, Masters’ and Bachelors’ theses.

Lab School Teacher - Middle School Science, University of Chicago

The Laboratory School is comprised of four schools with a total enrollment approximately 1750 students. The Middle School (5th - 8th grades) has approximately 460 students (115 at each grade level). The Lab School Teacher - Middle School Science receives direction and support from the Middle School Principal, Science Department Chair, and Dean of Students. Instructs and supervises a group of middle school students and interacts with parents and other members of the faculty and administration on a daily basis.

Full time teachers are expected to work a 40 hour week and the required number of days as stipulated in the Faculty Association contract. All teachers are expected to perform in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Bard High School Early College, a partnership between Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Physics, beginning February 2009. Lab Tech at Yale

Yale University seeks a new Instructional Lab Technician.

Reporting to the Director of Instructional Labs, primarily responsible for the preparation, maintenance and development of the physics lab equipment and experiments associated with the Physics 165/166 General Physics Laboratory course, including the summer session versions of the course. Work to improve existing labs, as well as develop new experiments and be responsible for TF training.

Position Description:
Prepare equipment on a weekly basis for the Physics 165/166 General Physics Laboratory course. Break down and set up specialized physics laboratory equipment on a weekly basis. Prepare equipment for the summer session versions of the P165/166 labs, which run during June and July.
Provide technical training to TFs assigned to the course, as well as provide technical support as needed to instructors, TFs and students during class hours. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and the diagnosing, repair and/or replacement of electronic and mechanical equipment.
Repair and improve existing physics lab equipment such as modifying it to improve function and efficiency as well as redesigning it to reduce breakage incidents. Independently make financial decisions as to whether to repair and/or replace equipment.
Independently maintain and update a computerized database of equipment. Keep track of consumables and independently arrange for resupply.
Independently develop new modern physics experiments for inclusion into class syllabus.
Maintain and update lab computers running office productivity software, as well as specialized physics data acquisition software and associated hardware.
Assist with, and preferably participate in, occasional outreach activities. Provide equipment, technical and organizational support for Physics Department outreach events such as the Yale Physics Olympics (YPO) and Girls’ Science Investigations (GSI).
Attend national meetings; attend talks and give presentations.
Supervise student assistant. Oversee any student projects related to Physics laboratory courses.
