Founded
in 1834, Franklin College is a residential, liberal arts institution
with a scenic, wooded campus, spanning 207 acres, including athletic
fields and a 31-acre biology woodland. Students enjoy the comfort and
safety of suburban living, while also experiencing the many
opportunities Indianapolis has to offer with a short 20-minute drive to
downtown. The college prepares students to think independently, to lead
responsibly and to serve with integrity in their professions, their
communities and the world. The college offers its approximately 1,000
students Bachelor of Arts degrees in 51 majors from 25 academic
disciplines, 42 minors, 11 pre-professional programs and five
cooperative programs. In 1842, the college began admitting women,
becoming the first coeducational institution in Indiana and the seventh
in the nation. Franklin College maintains a voluntary association with
the American Baptist Churches USA. For more information, visit

The
successful candidate will join faculty colleagues who are passionate
about classroom teaching and actively engaged in campus and community
service. The normal workload for a tenure-track faculty member involves
teaching 12 hours/semester, a month-long winter term class every other
year, a college committee assignment, and student advising. There are no
summer school teaching responsibilities, but the possibility exists to
offer a summer class or oversee undergraduate research projects for
additional compensation.
The Sciences have always been one of
Franklin College's strongest academic disciplines. Our graduates, who
have an 80%+ acceptance rate for professional schools, are employed by
employers such as Eli Lilly Inc., Dow AgroSciences, Heritage
Environmental, and the Department of Environmental Management. In order
to continue this tradition of success and meet the changing needs of our
students, we recently began a two- pronged strategic initiative. The
first requires implementation of a newly designed curriculum with a
higher emphasis on hands-on learning, including participation in
independent research projects or specialized internships, and on the
application of new technologies. We expect the successful candidate to
be able to use four recently-acquired ultrasound imaging units in
teaching current courses, involving students in undergraduate research
or design ultra-sound imaging related courses that contribute to our
premed curriculum. The second involves a capital campaign and
construction/renovation of the campus science facilities. As we move the
project through the planning and building phases, input from each
individual member of the Natural Science Division will be critical to
ensure the end product meets the needs of, and vision for, his/her
specialty.
Franklin faculty members receive funds for
professional development and have access to a variety of benefit
programs as outlined at
