Position Summary:

Research associate will serve as Program Coordinator for an NIH-funded training program providing interdisciplinary training in Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the daily logistics of pre- and post- course coordination including working with multi-disciplinary resource faculty. Research associate will interact with experts who will provide disciplinary knowledge to create research education materials and outputs including interactive online training and in-person team science workshops. Research associate will also work with STEM education faculty to collect and analyze assessment and evaluation data and to facilitate mentor planning and training. This position will be responsible for managing the interface between the pedagogical and content experts and the learning technology experts.

Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and interest in interdisciplinary science and education is desirable. Additional experience in risk assessment, analysis, and/or modeling is also desirable. Outputs from this project may be publications, presentations at regional, national and international meetings, and materials appropriate for upload to the online research and learning environment (qmrawiki.org) being further developed during this project. This 5-year project will offer fixed term support for this position renewed annually based on satisfactory performance. An initial commitment of two years is desirable. Salary will follow 2022 NIH published NRSA Stipend Levels and be commensurate with experience (minimum $54,840/year). Must be able to start during the Spring Semester 2023 or latest Summer 2023.

FT Lecturer, University of North Texas

 The Department of Physics at the University of North Texas is seeking a Lecturer to serve in a continuing, full-time position to start in August 2023. The Lecturer position is an important, pedagogically oriented element of the department and plays a key role in supporting courses that serve physics majors as well as courses serving other STEM and non-science majors.


The Lecturer will be expected to teach 3-4 courses per semester utilizing a variety of activity learning techniques. Possible courses include introductory physics (calculus-based or algebra-based), introductory astronomy, science and technology of sound, and core undergraduate physics courses. The lecturer will also be expected to supervise and mentor graduate Teaching Assistants who teach recitation sections and to support the Physics Department through service activities such as serving on department committees, assisting with student recruitment, and undergraduate advising.


The department is seeking strong, student-focused candidates with interactive and engaged teaching methodology who reflect on and continually hone their teaching practices. SUMMARY:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas A&M University-Commerce invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Physics Education Research (PER). The position will begin Fall 2023, and is contingent upon the availability of funds. A PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field is required. The successful applicant should have a strong interest or demonstrated experience in teacher preparation. The new faculty member will be expected to: carry out a vigorous, externally-funded research program with a primary emphasis on physics education research for undergraduate and graduate projects, advise students, and participate fully in the teaching program of the department.

We have developed a unique, completely online MS program in physics for in-service high school physics teachers and are in the process of building up our undergraduate physics teacher education program. Two members of our faculty are PhysTEC fellows. The successful applicant will be involved in the continued development and expansion of these programs.

Communications and Marketing Coordinator/Project Specialist, Colorado School of Mines

 The Colorado School of Mines seeks a Marketing and Communications Coordinator and/or Project Specialist to work on two closely related efforts at Mines: 1. Teach@Mines, which is a program that offers pathways to become a teacher through either a minor, a major, or a master’s degree; and 2. A national effort called Get the Facts Out: Repairing the Reputation of the Teaching Profession (GFO), which is an innovative partnership led by Mines that includes five national societies, college faculty, and school district personnel who are all working to recruit more Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics teachers by sharing facts about the benefits of the profession and how it compares to other careers.

Our team is very dynamic, collaborative, reliable, and hard-working. The team works to both support students at Mines who are interested in exploring the teaching profession as well as supporting other faculty across the country who work with prospective STEM teachers.  The Get the Facts Out efforts include

  • Supporting the nearly 300 GFO Champions via our website, blog, webinars, a listserv, email newsletter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Compilation of local teacher salary data, retirement benefits, and housing costs for each champion.
  • Collecting and analyzing survey data from both faculty and students at over 50 colleges/universities.
  • Development and testing of teacher recruitment resources
  • Presentations at various local and national venues sharing GFO resources and/or research results.
