The Position:
Instruct a variety of lecture and laboratory courses in Physics. Provide leadership in the development of a comprehensive physics curriculum. The Department of Physics at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, anticipates an opening for a tenure track appointment at the Assistant Professor level beginning in the Fall of 2014. A Ph. D. is required along with a commitment to undergraduate teaching and research in a Jesuit liberal arts setting. Candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate education and are expected to develop a research program that, in addition to involving undergraduate and M.S. students, can attract and maintain external funding. Responsibilities will include advancing astronomical research in the department, teaching astronomy and physics courses, and service activities including advising. Preference will be given to candidates who (a) can show evidence of teaching excellence at the university level, and (b) will implement a research program involving facilities available at the departments Dark Sky Observatory (DSO). The observatory hosts 32- and 18-inch telescopes with imaging and spectrographic capabilities as well three robotic photometric telescopes (6-, 14- and 17-inch). 1-year FT at Salem State MA

The department of chemistry and physics seeks a full-time temporary faculty member to teach introductory physics courses for the 2014/2015 academic year. Teaching assignments include introductory physics lectures and laboratories to meet departmental instructional needs. The position is subject to available funding.
The candidate will be responsible for 12 credit hours of instruction in a combination of lecture and laboratory sections as well as academic advising duties. The candidate is also expected to be active in scholarship and in the college community.
Required qualifications include (1) PhD or ABD with significant progress in Physics or a closely related field; and (2) evidence of an ability to teach effectively college level physics courses.
Preferred qualifications: (1) experience in teaching at the college level; (2) experience in and a commitment to teaching in a multicultural, multiracial environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles; and (3) experience with instructional technology and active learning techniques.

Two TT at U Nebraska Kearney

The Department of Physics & Physical Science at the University of Nebraska at Kearney invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions to begin in August 2014.
The successful applicant will have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and will be expected to teach introductory and advanced courses in Physics and Physical Science. Upper-level teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate's background and experience.

Postdoc in STEM Education at University of Arizona

The University of Arizona seeks a post- doctoral research associate to conduct assessment work in the 3-year AAU STEM Education Project.  The project goals are to (1) revise five introductory level STEM majors’ courses to align with evidence based teaching practices, and (2) positively impact STEM department cultures to sustain long-term commitment to evidence-based teaching practices.  The individual selected for the position will report directly to the Associate Vice Provost for Instruction and Assessment and will work closely with the faculty leaders of the project.  Duties and responsibilities will include: (1) collecting and analyzing assessment data across the AAU STEM project courses, (2) collaborating on assessment with faculty members in the Instructional Development Teams,  (3) working with the Vice Provost and the Associate Vice Provost to assess progress of department level cultural changes with regard to evidence-based teaching in STEM, (4) preparing manuscripts for publication in research journals, and (5) assisting the AAU STEM faculty leaders in grant proposal writing.  Minimum qualifications include: (1) a Ph.D. in science, education, or a related field, completed within the last five years, (2) excellent written and verbal communication skills, and (3) research experience in a postsecondary education project.  Preferred qualifications include: (1) skill in the use of statistical and textual analysis software, (2) research experience in the area of assessment in STEM, and (3) publications in the area of assessment.
