Wesleyan University’s Department of Physics invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics beginning September 1, 2022, for the 2022-2023 academic year.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics in hand by the time of appointment. A background in physics education research or experience with innovative teaching methods will be particularly welcome. The successful candidate will teach five course credits over the academic year, including co-teaching one section each semester of algebra-based introductory physics and a combination of higher-level undergraduate or graduate courses accommodating the candidate's experience to the Department's needs. FT (3-year renewable) Assistant Professor, University of Virginia

The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia (UVa), College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor, General Faculty. The Department has a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning of Physics and the successful candidate will be expected to strengthen that commitment. The successful candidate will be ready to employ active learning methods in teaching introductory physics courses, such as collaborative problem solving, flipped classroom, game-based learning, to give a few examples. We particularly welcome applicants with interests and experience in modern pedagogy methods which emphasize student participation.

 

The position is non-tenure track with three-year contracts that are renewable on successful review, contingent on funding. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester, typically with only one or two distinct course preparations. Other duties include student advising, curriculum development, and other departmental and university service. Professional activity that enhances teaching is strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will also be prepared to work with a diverse student population and promote equity and inclusion. Annual reviews will be based primarily on teaching and service. This position includes the possibility of promotion to Associate and Full Professor, General Faculty. The salary is market-competitive, and optional summer teaching for additional compensation is usually available. The appointment will begin in the Fall term of 2022.

Position overview

Position title: Teaching Professor, Physics (Assistant Teaching Professor- Teaching Professor*) *The Assistant Teaching Professor title confers the rights and responsibilities of membership in the Academic Senate, and it has the payroll title “Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment (LPSOE)”. An LPSOE is eligible for promotion to "Security of Employment”, which is analogous to tenure. The Associate Teaching Professor and Teaching Professor titles confer the rights and responsibilities of membership in the Academic Senate, and they have the payroll title of “Lecturer with Security of Employment (LSOE)” and “Senior Lecturer with Security of Employment (SLSOE)” respectively. Position description

The Physics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a teaching professor position, up to and including the senior level. UC Santa Cruz is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with a high proportion of first-in-family undergraduate students. The initial teaching focus will be on undergraduate introductory physics and associated lab courses. The successful candidate will teach five courses per year plus manage introductory labs; be familiar with current research and evidence-based teaching practices as applied in physics; will contribute to the literature in pedagogy, curricular development, and/or related research fields; and will be a leader in the implementation and development of innovative teaching practices to support a diverse student body. Closing equity gaps in student success rates and accelerating the expansion of diversity and inclusion of groups currently underrepresented in STEM are high priorities for the department and the campus.
