Tenure track at Colgate

The Department of Educational Studies at Colgate University is seeking to fill a tenure-track position in Science and Math Education at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The position will begin in August 2009. Requirements include teaching a course in math and science education that is consonant with a focus on educational studies as the foundation for teacher education. In addition the successful candidate will also supervise a small number of student teachers, teach an introductory educational foundations course, and two other courses determined by the candidate's expertise; at least one of these will be an educational foundations course. All Colgate faculty contribute to Colgate's all-university programs. In addition, there are opportunities to teach in an interdisciplinary program such as Environmental Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Africana and Latin American Studies, and others. Experience in public school teaching is required. Experience in urban or rural high needs schools is preferred. We are especially interested in candidates who have a vision of transforming the way math and science education is traditionally taught. In addition to elementary and secondary education programs and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree, we offer a major and minor concentration program in Educational Studies. Our faculty are committed to providing a breadth of course offerings to both students planning a career in teaching and to students interested in exploring the problems, processes, and consequences of education, but who are not intent on earning a teaching credential. We are interested in receiving applications from individuals who understand the role of Educational Studies at a liberal arts institution and can contribute to the intellectual development of both groups of students. Candidates should submit a letter of application, graduate school transcripts, a current vita, a brief statement of a teaching philosophy, and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation sent from persons who can speak to their qualifications for this position. Candidates who are ABD may be considered for a full-time or part time position while completing their degree. Ph.D. or Ed.D would be expected by August. 2009.
