TT at U Tennessee

The College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at The University of Tennessee is seeking applicants for an assistant professor of science education in the Department of Theory & Practice in Teacher Education (TPTE). Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position begins August 2009.

Principal responsibilities of this position include providing leadership in our nationally ranked teacher preparation program, supporting the undergraduate and graduate program in science education through teaching and advising, supervising science interns in the schools; engaging in scholarly activities in science education; and participating in professional associations at the local, state, regional, national and international levels. Close cooperation with all departments involved in science education is expected.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph. D. or Ed. D. in science education or a related field or a nearly completed degree, have successful teaching experience in K-12 schools, a demonstrated ability to respond effectively to cultural, linguistic, gender and ethnic diversity, evidence of strong potential for scholarly productivity, knowledge of current national standards in science education, and a demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the teaching of science education.

Applicants who have worked in professional development schools, and supervised interns or student teachers will be given strong consideration as will those who demonstrate evidence of the ability and interest in pursuit of external funding. Teaching experience in K-8 is desired. Additional desired qualities include: strong science background, demonstrated ability to teach pre-service elementary or secondary science method courses, and ability to apply quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies.
