The Department of Chemistry and Physics at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Physics at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August 2009. The Physics Program is seeking highly qualified candidates committed to a career in teaching and research in a growing program. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Physics, and postdoctoral experience is preferred. The successful candidate must have demonstrable competency in teaching and mentoring students from culturally diverse backgrounds. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory and advanced physics courses for physics majors and non-majors. Experimental skills in developing new laboratory experiments for undergraduate and graduate students will be a plus. The candidate will be expected to initiate and maintain an active research program that can be adapted to undergraduate students and which should be able to attract internal and external funding. The candidate must be fluent in English.
