Directorship at University of Maine

The National Science Foundation (NSF) ADVANCE Institutional Transformation
project at the University of Maine seeks an individual to serve as a change
agent in the position of Director of the ADVANCE Rising Tide Center. This
is a full-time, 12-month appointment with funding guaranteed for a 5-year
period. The Director will provide day-to-day leadership for the programs
focusing on the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women faculty in
science, engineering, technology, and mathematics (STEM) and social and
behavioral science (SBS) disciplines. In doing so, the Director will
collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of co-principal investigators and
professional staff members to address issues that have been identified as
barriers for women in these fields and will coordinate activities with
internal and external advisory committees, evaluators, and the NSF ADVANCE
Program Office. The Director reports to the Principal Investigator (Senior
Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost).

Working with other campus centers and co-PIs, the Director will coordinate
several professional development programs for faculty members at the
University of Maine and at the other System campuses, including a grant
program, climate workshops, mentoring programs, and networking programs. To
support the improvement of facilitative policies, structures, and problem
resolution mechanisms, the Director will collaborate with other campus
centers and departments, co-PIs, and an ADVANCE liaison. The Director will
work with other campus departments and centers to develop and deliver
training to campus constituencies. Other job responsibilities include
representing the Rising Tide Center at national meetings, performing data
collection, analysis, and writing of reports for internal and external
evaluation, assessment, and the NSF. The PI may call upon the Director to
develop proposals for funding to sustain activities beyond the end of the
grant period.

Candidates typically have the education associated with a doctorate or other
terminal degree, with administrative or academic experience in the area of
gender equity in the academic environment or STEM career fields. Applicants
must demonstrate strong organizational, verbal and written communication,
planning, and analytical skills, an ability to work both independently and
in collaboration with researchers and other stakeholders, and a willingness
to travel. Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to be an effective
change agent including the ability to bring diverse groups together to
implement changes in a complex environment, the ability to interact well
with a broad range of the university community, and the ability to organize
groups and move initiatives forward. Grant writing experience and experience
in financial and federal grant management are preferred. Appropriate
background checks will be required.

Salary Range: $52,000 - $65,000, commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
