Hamline University's School of Education seeks an informed, actively engaged, early-career scholar for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the Teacher Education Department, with supportive assignments in the Center for Global and Environmental Education (CEGEE). The appointment begins Fall 2011, with the possibility of summer employment.

An earned doctorate in science, math, and/or technology, with significant preparation in teacher education and pedagogical applications supportive of inquiry methods, is required. Applicants with prior teaching experience at the university level and at least three years of experience working as a licensed teacher in P-12 learning environments, preferably in urban school settings, are encouraged to apply. All candidates must have a rich experience and deep interest in working with aspiring and practicing teachers at the undergraduate and graduate levels and support alternative pathways to teacher preparation. Also preferred is someone who can work across community sectors in support of teachers' content knowledge, quantitative skills, and pedagogical applications and the learning success of children and adolescents, regardless of personal circumstances and/or cultural/ethnic background. A deep respect and reverence for humanity and STEM areas is preferred.


Candidates must be willing and able to apply innovative pedagogical approaches to the professional preparation of teachers in the areas of science, math, and technology. Also required is a deep, practical, first-hand knowledge of the pedagogical practices supportive of creating powerful learning vehicles by encouraging caring, committed, and culturally supportive teachers capable of working with learners regardless of their cultural/ethnic background, country of origin, personal circumstance, or type of school attended (e.g., public, private, charter). Candidates must also support working with aspiring teachers in multiple pathways to licensure (e.g., undergraduate, graduate, and alternative approaches such as Teach for America).

Responsibilities include teaching courses primarily in the Teacher Education Department for initial certification programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with additional assignments in the Center for Global and Environmental Education (CEGEE) and other HSE departments (Continuing Studies and Advanced Degrees). The person selected must be willing to work in service-related work supportive of NCATE and on collaborative endeavors with other faculty and community/school partners while maintaining an active research agenda. Basic Requirements
• Earned doctorate in math, science, and/or technology education;
• Prior certification and experience working in P-12 learning environments;
• Prior experience working across community sectors;
• An established scholarly agenda and/or strong potential for scholarly success.
