Summary: Your initial assignment will include teaching, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as applicable; course and/or curriculum development; research/scholarship; involvement on College and University committees and/or initiatives; as well as duties as assigned. Florida Gulf Coast University is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service. Teaching assignments may be on the main campus or at off-campus sites within our region.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Teaches nine (9) contact hours per semester of undergraduate courses in physics and related subjects. Continued scholarly activity is expected at a level commensurate with the mission of the University. Community, institutional and professional service in furtherance of FGCU's mission is expected of all faculty. Other duties may be assigned by the chair.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related area from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.
ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2015. If successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract.
Preferred Qualifications: All areas of Physics are welcome, expertise in areas which complement existing departmental strengths would be especially welcome, as would interest and ability to make connections to other programs in the College of Arts and Sciences or the U.A Whitaker College of Engineering. Willingness to engage in service opportunities commensurate with career maturity. Excellence in teaching upper and lower division physics courses as well as talent for delivering a difficult scientific subject in a creative and relevant manner to students in STEM fields.
Special Instructions: "Statement of experience with students in research or scholarship as it fits discipline" should include plans to collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students on research projects and engagement in scholarly activities.

Appointment will be made at a faculty rank commensurate with the candidate's experience on a 9-month multi-year appointment basis available August 2015.
