Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor – Science Education (Log #16-003)
The Department of Middle and Secondary Education in the College of Education at Georgia State University is seeking a permanent full-time tenure-track assistant or associate professor in science education. Georgia State University, founded in 1913, has a mission of excellence in teaching, research, and service. Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, this major research university has an enrollment of more than 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students in six colleges. Classified as RU/H (Research University/High Research Activity), Georgia State University is the only urban research university in Georgia and is the second largest university in the state, with students coming from every county in Georgia, every state in the nation, and from over 160 countries.
Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include conducting research, publishing research and scholarship, seeking external funding to support research as appropriate to the area of inquiry, teaching courses in the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs in science education, and providing service to the science education community. Additional responsibilities include mentoring doctoral students; advising undergraduate and graduate students; serving on departmental, college, and university committees; and participating in professional organizations
and conferences.
Qualifications: Qualifications include an earned doctorate in science education or related area; evidence of scholarly work in science education; a strong background in current trends and issues in science education; expertise in standards-based instruction and assessment; experience and commitment in working with diverse students in urban settings and in professional development schools; and strength as a researcher as well as a scholar/teacher. Applicants for the associate professor position should have a robust research agenda, national reputation, and strong record of external funding for research. Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong methodological background and a well-defined research program that is supported by funding from a source that uses a rigorous peer review process.

This position is available beginning Fall Semester 2015. However, the position will remain open and applications accepted until filled.
