VAP at Catawba College NC [Jan 2015]

Catawba College invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track position; the position can begin in January, 2015 and serve through the 2015-16 academic year. It is preferred that applicants for this position hold a Ph.D. in physics; ABD will be considered. The position's primary responsibility will be to teach lecture and laboratory for General Physics as well as general education science offerings. Catawba College does not offer an undergraduate major in Physics, so preference will be given to applicants whose teaching and research interests are suitable for undergraduate research with chemistry, biology or environmental science students. Candidates with interests in offering sustainable technology coursework to complement the college's environmental science programs are encouraged to apply; interests in physics applications within the health sciences are also welcomed. Opportunities to participate in the college's honors and first-year seminar courses are also available. The College maintains research and educational laboratories equipped with instrumentation including IR, NMR, GC/MS, HPLC, ICP, UV-Vis, Fluorescence, Epifluorescence, and SEM, as well as a Molecular Genetics lab. The on-campus 189-acre Catawba Ecological Preserve contains a diverse wetlands habitat.
