Postdoc at Michigan State

Postdoc in PER at Michigan State

The Physics Education Research Lab (http://www.pa.msu.edu/research/physics-education-lab) seeks to fill a postdoctoral position in January 2015. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in physics or physics education with preference to candidates with graduate or postdoctoral experience in physics education research, particularly in the area of introductory laboratory development. The initial duration of the appointment will be one year (12 months) with expectation of renewal based on satisfactory performance. Responsibilities will include the development and implementation of discovery-based laboratories for introductory STEM majors and the assisting with the professional development of teaching assistants. Teaching is also a possibility.

Requirements are an advanced degree in physics or physics education with preference to candidates with a Ph.D. and with graduate or postdoctoral experience in physics education research, particularly in the area of introductory laboratory development. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding teaching and mentoring skills, strong content knowledge, excellent writing skills, and the ability to work with undergraduate students, grad students, faculty, and staff in a collaborative environment.

This position is available due to a recent award from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The final detail of the award are being finalized, so presently an official job ad has not propagated through the MSU system. We expect this to occur by the end of the summer.

Applicants should prepare a CV, a statement of research interests, and a statement of teaching philosophy and experiences. In addition, applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted.

Review of applications will begin on Oct 1st, 2014 Questions regarding the position may be directed to Danny Caballero, Faculty Advisor for the Physics Education Research Lab, caballero@pa.msu.edu.
