Position Summary Information

Basic Function
The primary responsibility of a faculty member in the Virginia Community College System shall be to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis shall be on good teaching by working with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities—to help the
student develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become a better person, a better worker, and a better citizen.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and teach physics lectures and labs, advise students, participate in campus and college committees and other activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in the field or Master’s with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field. College level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience. Ability to use instructional technologies. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills. The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes with the ability to be flexible to work at any campus location. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Preferred Qualifications
A PhD degree in physics; experience teaching hybrid and/or online courses, as well as experience teaching courses to students from diverse backgrounds, experience teaching at college or university level, especially community college teaching experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to design and prepare labs and lectures, work with a diverse student body, teach all levels of physics, incorporate teaching and learning strategies that have been demonstrated to promote student engagement, persistence and success. Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience with classroom technologies to enhance student learning.
