FT Lectureship (renewable and temporary) at Texas State

[Update: here's the ad]

The Texas State University physics departments seeks one or more full-time lecturers for Fall 2015. One lecturer position is established as continuing year-to-year, and at least one additional appointment is technically temporary but likely to continue.

The physics department at Texas State specializes in the physics of materials and physics education. Applicants with interest and background in physics education research and/or teacher preparation will be invited to participate in education-related activity in the department, including some opportunities for leadership.

Application materials: A single pdf consisting of (1) Letter of interest, (2) Statement of Teaching Philosophy, (3) Curriculum Vitae, (4) Contact information for three references. To apply, send this pdf to Dr. Hunter Close at hgclose@txstate.edu with the subject “2015 Lecturer”.

The 9-month salary for this position is about $45K/year, with opportunities for summer teaching or grant work, depending on candidates’ interest and initiative.

Review of application materials will begin June 8, 2015.

Here are the courses that are currently unstaffed for Fall 2015. This list is tentative and subject to change:
2 sections (~100 students each) of 2nd semester physics for non-majors (PHYS 1320)
3 sections (~100 students each) of 2nd semester algebra-based physics (PHYS 1325)
2 sections (~50 students each) of calculus-based electricity and magnetism (PHYS 2425)
1 section (~15 students) of mathematical methods for physics majors (PHYS 3320)
1 section (~8 students) of graduate electromagnetic theory (PHYS 5331)

[This was the rumor]

The Texas State University physics department will very likely be hiring a lecturer for Fall 2015. We expect the teaching assignment to be focused on calculus-based introductory physics. Learning Assistants help with instruction during the "lecture" time.
