Job Description:The Center for Teaching Development at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and is accepting resumes for the position of Associate Director to the Center for Teaching Development (CTD). This full-time, 12 months-basis position is an academic appointment in the Academic Coordinator II series with performance reviews every 2 years. The position reports to the Director of CTD - a senate faculty member appointed at 50% time.


In consultation with the CTD Director, develop and implement the mission and course of an organization supporting evidence-based best practices in teaching and learning - in an increasingly integrated, diverse, and digitally-engaged learning environment. Collaborate with the Director to develop and provide service-centered resources (both traditional and digital) for those involved in campus instructional activities. Develop and support the training of campus Teaching Assistants through engagement with departmental-specific training and organized CTD training. Serve as resource for the UCSD instructional community, provide support to those seeking to assess learning, implement and document impact of instructional innovation, and organize various campus engagement meetings. Collaborate with Director and Academic Computing to identify and utilize technology for improving teaching and learning. Responsible for UCSD's participation in the CIRTL (a nation-wide 25-university organization preparing future STEM faculty). Represent UCSD at local, California, national, and international meetings, committees, and work groups, with a focus on the University of California. Assess, document, publish and present the activities and effectiveness of CTD to entities internal and external to UCSD. Responsible for the daily operation of CTD including management, supervision, hiring, budget development and oversight. Collaborate in identifying and pursuing internal and external funding sources. Research, identify, implement, and manage short and long term strategic operational plans. Analyze, develop, interpret, and implement operational policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

Significant instructional experience in a large research university environment. University level teaching experience preferred.
Higher degree (PhD preferred) in a (non-education) disciplinary field, STEM discipline preferred.
Experience in professional development at the university level.
Development and delivery of Teaching Assistant training preferred but not required.
Familiarity with literature on best practices for teaching and learning and for Teaching Assistant and faculty development required.
Confident in the use of current and new technologies which support community building, communication, and instruction.
Administrative and supervisory experience.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Basic accounting and fiscal analysis skills, and grant proposal development.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.
