The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Education is seeking a tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Science Education. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual committed to promoting just, equitable, and inclusive education to teach in the elementary education (science methods) and secondary science education area. The Teacher Education Program serves undergraduate and graduate candidates in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Collaborative Education (special education), Elementary Education, English Language Arts, Foreign Languages, General Science, History, Mathematics, Middle Grades Education, Physics, and General Social Sciences. All programs have achieved regional and national recognition for excellence and are approved by the Alabama State Department of Education and NCATE accredited. Responsibilities of the position include: Coordinate the science credential program including candidate recruitment, placement, and supervision of fieldwork; Teach undergraduate courses in methods of teaching science that include a focus on the Next Generation Science Standards, learner-centered inquiry and project-based learning for elementary, middle and secondary teacher education candidates, as well as graduate courses in science education and foundational core courses; Collaborate with colleagues to conduct program/course planning and revision; Engage in scholarly endeavors, including presentations and publications; Provide academic advisement and mentoring; Provide service to the University, Department and Profession. Minimum Qualifications Earned doctorate in a field related to secondary science education from an accredited institution. ABD may be considered, but doctorate required by the beginning of the 2015-16 academic year; Three or more years of full-time middle or secondary science education (grades 6-12) in public schools; Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to work effectively in the education of linguistically and culturally diverse school-aged students; Demonstrated potential for scholarly and creative activity; Knowledge of research and current best practices of teaching diverse students in science; Commitment to ongoing professional development to maintain currency in the field; Experience using current technology to support teaching and learning. Preferred Qualifications: Leadership experience in education profession including involvement with K-12 partnerships and collaborations and community outreach, particularly in robotics, STEM, and science initiatives; In-depth understanding of current state and national teacher education issues and research; Knowledge and experience in designing and facilitating online and blended delivery courses. Rank and Salary This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. Salary will be competitive and commensurate to rank, experience, and qualifications.
