| Duties and Responsibilities |
In addition to contractual duties, all full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the teaching assignment may be in the evening and/or online. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. advancing student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines; 2. developing and implementing student learning outcomes assessment processes for courses and programs; 3. collaborating in the development and revision of curriculum and in program review; 4. engaging in department program improvement initiatives; 5. participating in department, division, and college committees; 6. participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide; 7. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/ learning strategies; 8. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics; 9. informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements; 10. preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress; 11. maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines; 12. posting and holding sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy; 13. participating in College’s shared governance processes. |

Applications will be screened to ensure the applicant meets the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
1. In collaboration with the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and the Bourns College of Engineering, the Graduate School of Education is leading a search for five outstanding scholars who study teaching and learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. We invite applications and nominations for tenure-track or tenured (open rank) positions in this area. The position will commence as early as June 30, 2016, or as negotiated.
We seek to hire a multi-disciplinary cluster of faculty whose research focuses on understanding how students learn and ways to enhance their learning of STEM in formal K-12 or college classrooms, informal settings, and distance and/or online learning. Research that focuses on improving learning across diverse groups (e.g., English language learners, students from low income families or other groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM) is particularly welcome. While GSOE will be administering the search, successful candidates may reside in any school or college that allows them to collaborate with appropriate researchers to understand and improve teaching and learning in elementary, secondary, and higher education. In addition to teaching and advising Ph.D. and M.A. students, responsibilities include contributing to our Teacher Education Program and undergraduate education minor programs through teaching math and science methods courses.

A doctorate in mathematics education, science education, engineering education, learning sciences, cognitive psychology, or a related social science is required by time of appointment, June 30, 2016. Preference will be given to candidates who have experiences collaborating on a research team and an active research agenda that focuses on research questions consistent with UCR STEM faculty. Academic rank will be contingent upon the individual's level of accomplishments in scholarly activity, as well as experience securing and directing grants, teaching, mentoring graduate students, and service. Salary and research support will be commensurate with an appointment within the University of California system. The Department of Chemistry and Physical Sciences in the College of Science and Mathematics at UVI is seeking candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in the fall of 2016. Commitment to quality undergraduate teaching, continuing scholarship and university service are required.
This position supports the expansion of UVI's physics and applied mathematics offerings in the College of Science and Mathematics and on the Albert A. Sheen campus on the island of St. Croix. • serving as head instructor for the PHYS 204 -206 multiple-section courses, including supervising and helping train graduate student teaching assistants,
• adapting and developing new course materials that employ best-practice methods for student learning and growth based on physics education research findings,
• maintaining and coordinating course materials so that they mesh well with instruction taking place in companion lecture courses, and,
• occasionally teaching the companion lecture courses (PHYS 201 – 203) or other courses such as lower-division Physics majors lab courses;
• working with other Physics faculty to improve lower-division lab courses,
• coordinating equipment usage and maintaining inventory used by all the 200- and 300-level physics teaching lab classes,
• updating lab equipment and spaces, and ensuring safe lab practices are followed, and
• hiring, training and supervising undergraduate student lab assistants.
Beyond the above duties, the remaining balance of time is allocated to improving the laboratory educational mission of the department. The successful candidate, depending on their background, may be encouraged to write grant proposals for systematic improvements to teaching lab courses, and will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable pending satisfactory performance, with longer contract periods available in subsequent years in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. Minimum qualifications for applicants include a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in physics, a related field, or in science education; a substantive background working with scientific instrumentation; and evidence of strong writing and communication skills.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and will be in the range $50-65K for the 9 month academic year. POSITION DESCRIPTION
Teaching responsibilities include approximately 20 hours per week of lecture and lab instruction, plus office hours for student consultation. Course assignments may include any of the Calculus, Algebra and Conceptual-based Physics courses offered by the program, as well as Engineering 45, Properties of Materials. SRJC offers courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as on-line. The district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and assignments could involve any combination of day, evening, and weekend classes. Faculty are encouraged to utilize a wide range of instructional delivery systems including innovative and creative uses of technology.
Instructors are required to participate in the basic departmental functions such as department meetings, departmental subcommittees, and student club activities. Instructors assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field and for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including development or improvement of laboratory experiments); assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes, and participating in college-wide committees and community outreach. |
