The department of Physics at Georgia Southern University invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor. The position requires teaching, service, and research responsibilities as well as a terminal degree. The Department of Physics is comprised of eight tenured or tenure-track faculty who are teacher-scholars primarily committed to undergraduate teaching and research. Applicants with demonstrated proficiency in any area of physics or astronomy are encouraged to apply.
Required qualifications: PhD in physics, astronomy, or related field by August 1, 2011; evidence of teaching and research abilities; ability to establish an active and productive research program involving undergraduates; demonstrated command of written and spoken English; willingness to work well with others. Preferred qualifications: At least one year experience teaching physics or astronomy; experience in teaching a large section of general physics or astronomy; experience teaching a diverse student population, especially at the undergraduate level. Screening of applications begins November 1, 2010, and continues until the position is filled. The position starting date is August 1, 2011.
