TT at Ithaca College

The Ithaca College Physics Department seeks a tenure-eligible assistant professor to start in the fall of 2011. The successful candidate will be an experimentalist with a strong dedication to teaching, whose research can provide on-campus research experiences for our students. Applied fields such as education research in physics or astronomy, renewable energy, materials science, optics, or condensed matter are particularly welcome. We seek a conscientious teacher who will thrive in a four-year comprehensive institution where close contact with students and collaboration among the faculty are the norm. Responsibilities include teaching assigned courses with associated office hours, grading and grade assignment. Faculty members are also expected to participate in activities of the physics community and the College. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to teach in ways that value the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population, and that reflect a commitment to encouraging the success of all students. We also seek candidates who have relevant experience and/or a record of professional engagement with groups and communities underrepresented in the academy. Candidates from underrepresented groups whose exclusion from the academy has been longstanding are strongly encouraged to apply.

Ph.D. in physics or related discipline required. Teaching experience at the college level is also expected.

Interested individuals should apply online at www.icjobs.org and attach a curriculum vita, a cover letter, and a description of teaching experience. In addition, arrange for three (3) letters of recommendation to be forwarded in paper copy (no emails please) to: Beth Ellen Clark Joseph, Department of Physics, Ithaca College, 261 Center for Natural Sciences, Ithaca, NY 14850. Applications are not complete until all application materials are received. Questions about the online application process should be directed to the Office of Human Resources at (607) 274-1207.

Review of materials will begin October 6, 2010 and continue until position is filled.

Ithaca College is committed to building a diverse academic community and encourages members of underrepresented groups to apply. Experience that contributes to the diversity of the college is appreciated.
