The Department of Physics at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment to begin in August 2011. The department consists of eight full-time permanent faculty and three staff members; we graduate about ten student majors each year. The department is housed in a new science complex and currently has active research programs in atomic and molecular physics, astrophysics, condensed matter, and physics of sports. Candidates should be enthusiastic about undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment and have excellent communication skills; previous teaching experience is desirable. A Ph.D. in physics is required but research interests may be in physics or a related interdisciplinary field. Faculty members are expected to maintain an active research program and to create opportunities for undergraduate research. This position carries a 3-2 teaching load with a paid one-semester research leave prior to tenure review and generous sabbatical and fellowship leaves for senior faculty. Start-up funds are available.
