TT or T at Columbus State University

The position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Science Education is a nine month, tenure track faculty position. Responsibilities include: coordinating the undergraduate and graduate programs in Science Education; effective teaching and advising at the graduate and undergraduate levels; designing, implementing, and assessing Science Education programs of study; supervising student teachers, interns and practicum students; engaging in research and scholarly activities in the discipline; serving on and chairing doctoral committees; performing service to the program, department, college, and university; working closely with faculty in the College of Letters and Sciences; and participating actively in Science Education professional development and leadership activities. The College of Education and Health Professions has graduate programs at the masters, specialist, and doctoral levels.

The successful candidate will be a community role model who fosters an environment of professionalism, scholarship, continuous improvement in Science Education program design and delivery, and collaboration with university faculty and public school personnel. Additionally, he or she is expected to be a strong advocate for Science Education within the university and community at large. Diversity in faculty and staff in the College of Education and Health Professions is encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include an earned doctorate in Science Education; experience and knowledge in public education as a science teacher (preferably at the secondary level), curriculum director, or administrator; excellent written and oral communication skills; exceptional collaborative skills; and use of technology for synchronous and asynchronous instruction. A successful criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment.

Review of applications will begin November 5, 2010 and continue until the position has been filled. Application packets should include a letter of interest delineating relevant credentials/ experiences, current curriculum vita, statement of philosophy of teaching, official academic transcripts sent directly from the institution, and three letters of recommendation. Applications for part-time and full-time faculty positions must include transcripts of all academic work, and official transcripts must be presented prior to campus visit if selected for interview. Ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
