We invite applications and nominations for a tenure-line position, assistant/associate professor rank, in the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education, College of Education, NC State University. This is a nine- month, tenure track appointment effective August 15, 2011.
Essential Job Duties
With a focus on needed 21st century skills, the successful candidate must be prepared to:
• Conduct a focused and creative program of research and scholarship in science education and collaborate across discipline lines to infuse a STEM education focus in graduate and undergraduate education;
• Participate in an innovative, field-based teacher education program teaching methodology courses, supervising clinical field experiences, and advise and mentor students;
• Establish a scholarly research, grant writing, and publication record aligned with a research extensive university;
• Conduct and seek external funding to support scholarly activities;
• Produce high quality scholarship that impacts teaching, learning and/or policy;
• Participate in public service and outreach efforts related to science education at local, national, and international levels; and
• Assist in department and college governance and outreach.
NC State is a research extensive university and our faculties are active in contributing to the research mission of the university via grant proposals, refereed publications, and collaborations that transcend traditional curriculum lines. All faculties provide service to their professional organizations, the community, and university and to society at large.
Required qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Science Education, or a related field and a Masters in a science area or the equivalent;
• A proven scholarly research and publication record associated with a research extensive university or the potential to establish such a record, and expertise in educational research design and research methodologies;
• Evidence demonstrating the use of new/emerging technologies in teaching or research;
• Evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate or K-12 levels in Science Education or a related field.
Preferred qualifications:
Special consideration will be given to applicants with:
• Middle or High School science teaching experience;
• Background in the physical sciences or earth & environmental sciences;
• Grant writing experience and/or successful funding appropriate to the level of experience;
• Experience working with teachers and students in culturally diverse settings.
