The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of astronomy/astrophysics starting in the Fall of 2012. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a closely related discipline by August 2012. A strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in both astronomy and physics is expected. Previous college teaching experience and evidence of independent scholarship is preferred. The successful candidate is expected to establish a research program involving undergraduate students. The ability to take advantage of the department’s partnership with the University of Arizona Steward Observatory created by a current NSF grant is a plus (see details http://academic.csupomona.edu/faculty/position.aspx?p_id=91). The department has a large and active student body with close faculty student interactions and a history of success in obtaining funding from NSF and other external sources.
