Summary: Your initial duties will include teaching; course and/or curriculum development; involvement on College and University committees and/or initiatives; as well as duties as assigned. Teaching assignments may be on the main campus or at off-campus sites within our region.
Job Responsibilities:
Supports General Education Physics classes: PHY2020, 2053C, 2054C, 2048C, 2049C. Prepares and teaches laboratory sessions, assists in the delivery of content in active learning classrooms, grades, facilitates department-wide data collection efforts that coincide with normal course delivery duties, and other related duties as assigned. Engages in collaborative efforts with current FGCU faculty in Earth and Space Sciences program. This is a teaching position, but scholarly and service efforts are encouraged.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Physics or related degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Physics. Demonstrated achievement or evidence of potential for excellent teaching in general physics. Talent for delivering a difficult scientific field in a creative and relevant manner to students pursuing STEM fields. Must meet the University and College criteria for appointment to the level of Instructor I.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching at the general education level. Interest and ability to make connections to the Earth & Space Sciences, Marine Science, or Environmental Studies programs. A collaborative and collegial spirit and willingness to serve at the departmental and college levels.
Special Instructions: Appointment will be made on a 9 month multi-year appointment basis available August 2012.
