Assistant Professor in Science Education

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor in the area of Science Education. We seek a colleague who will conduct nationally recognized research and contribute to the teaching and service of our department. The position requires someone who will work effectively with teachers, both pre-service and in-service, who themselves work with diverse populations in elementary, middle, or secondary schools. QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Earned doctoral degree by start date in science education (or closely related field) with a strong academic
preparation in one or more of the sciences.
2. Experience teaching at the elementary, middle or secondary level; and with diverse populations are desirable.
3. Research and teaching interests at the elementary-school level are desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Engage in an active and nationally recognized program of research in science education.
2. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in science education
3. Advise undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students.
4. Assist in the science teacher education program.
5. Participate in department, school, and university faculty governance activities.
6. Contribute professionally to science education at the local, state, and national levels.

SALARY:
Salary is open and will be negotiated on the basis of the applicant’s experience and qualifications. The initial contract is three years.

APPOINTMENT DATE:
Semester I, 2012-2013 academic year, August 27, 2012.
