Non-TT at Davidson College

The Department of Physics at Davidson College invites applications for a non-tenure track renewable position to begin August 1, 2013. Completion or imminent completion of the Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or physics is preferred.  Candidates must be committed to outstanding teaching as well as continuing professional and outreach activities. The initial appointment is for two years. We seek an astronomer, astrophysicist, or physicist who will teach classroom and laboratory courses in introductory astronomy and introductory physics. Teaching at the advanced undergraduate level is possible depending on interests and experience of the applicant. The appointment provides an annual professional travel fund and the potential for research support. The teaching load is five semester courses per year.

Applicants should address their professional interests and career goals and their relevance to the liberal arts environment within a letter of application. This letter, along with a teaching statement, a curriculum vitae, and (unofficial) graduate transcripts, must be submitted to https://jobs.davidson.edu/. A completed application also requires 3 letters of reference, of which at least one must specifically address the applicant's teaching. References may submit letters online (submission instructions will be sent to email addresses the applicant provides). Application questions may be directed to the HR Department at 704-894-2213 or by email at employment@davidson.edu. Position inquiries to Dr. Wolfgang Christian, Department Chair, at wochristian@davidson.edu. Evaluation of applicants will begin on March 1, 2013. Davidson is a highly selective, nationally ranked four-year liberal arts college with a Presbyterian heritage. The Davidson community is a family-friendly environment and is strongly committed to achieving excellence and cultural diversity.
