FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
Queensborough Community College offers a unique opportunity for research involving undergraduates in a community college setting and was the first NSF sponsored REU physics site at a community college.  Among the active areas of research are astronomy, biophysics, imaging, and physics education.  The Physics Department co-sponsors the A.S. in Engineering Science and the A.S. in Liberal Arts and Sciences (Mathematics and Science). Teach courses in physics at all levels up to and including modern physics and introductory astronomy.  Mentor and advise students; work with the department in the evaluation, implementation, and assessment of courses and pedagogy.  Participate in Departmental and College activities including committees, curriculum development and preparation of grants.  Continued scholarly activities and publications are required for tenure and promotion.  Successful candidate may be required to teach some night and possibly Saturday classes.
Teaching experience, preferably at the college level, and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.  Ability to establish a research program with student participation.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
 
For Instructor:
Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
