The Department of Physics and
Astronomy at the University of Toledo is currently seeking qualified
applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of
lecturer. While non-tenured, a successful lecturer can expect continued
employment with opportunities for advancement in rank. The successful
candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses, but primarily
introductory, large enrollment, lecture-demonstration courses, including
those taken by non-science majors, in both physics and astronomy. The
duties associated with this position would include preparation of course
materials, teaching smaller recitation classes, coordinating the
revision of teaching approaches in introductory courses within the
department, and academic program assessment. The candidate must possess
a Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy. Teaching experience is essential,
along with evidence of effectiveness in teaching a variety of courses.
Postdoctoral research experience is highly desirable, especially in
areas of discipline-based physics and/or astronomy education research.
Good communication and writing skills are required. The candidate must
have had experience with and be prepared to apply advanced pedagogical
and technological methods to the courses taught. Professional activity
in the areas of discipline-specific physics or astronomy education
research will be encouraged and supported. The appointment will begin
