Renewable 3-year instructorship, Penn State Beaver

Penn State Beaver invites applications for a faculty position in Physics (Instructor, three year multi-year appointment with option for renewal, 36 weeks) to begin August 2014, or as negotiated.

Responsibilities: Teach courses in introductory physics. Course delivery may include using traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. Participate in course, curriculum, and program development. Advise students and provide career guidance. Participate in campus, university, and community service activities. Engage in activities to stay current in the discipline.

Qualifications: M.S. or M.A. in Physics. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is desired. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.

Penn State Beaver is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses state-wide. It is a student-centered campus of approximately 750 students; about 12% are adult learners. The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as five baccalaureate degrees in Administration of Justice, Business, Communications, Information Sciences and Technology, and Psychology and three associate degrees. Students and faculty at Penn State Beaver have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research. Our students receive a world-class education delivered in a small campus setting.

Penn State Beaver is a 100 acre, suburban campus located 30 miles north of Pittsburgh and 20 miles north of the Pittsburgh International Airport with easy access to the excitement of the city and relaxation of the country.
