Solano Community College (SCC), a comprehensive community college has an opening for a Full-time, tenure track Physics/Astronomy Instructor.
The successful candidate will be able to teach Physics and Astronomy courses and assist the School of Math and Science in developing and expanding its offerings in both Physics and
Astronomy.
The successful candidate will be able to teach Physics and Astronomy courses and assist the School  in developing and expanding Physics and  Astronomy offerings at the Fairfield campus and Vacaville, and Vallejo campuses as well as on-line courses.  Duties include teaching Physics and Astronomy classes and labs, and participating in curriculum and planning for future of the two programs. In addition, the ability to use and expand the use of technology and active learning strategies in the classroom and laboratory will be expected.  The candidate should expect to teach part of the teaching load at one or both centers (Vallejo and Vacaville).
 Responsibilities:
Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations, inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative time-lines and submit completed and required documents and reports, and maintain required student attendance and scholastic records.

Develop new courses in Physics and Astronomy to expand the offerings of both prorams and update curriculum as necessary.

Participate in staff/division/lab meetings, coordinate course-level and program-level assessment and planning, and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Teaching assignments may include evening hours and off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, and participate in student outreach and recruiting as part of the school-and college-wide services.
 Minimum Qualifications:
All degrees must be from accredited institutions.

Master's in physics, astronomy, astrophysics OR Bachelor's in Physics or Astronomy AND Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics OR the equivalent.
 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of subject area to be taught; multiple teaching methods which include critical thinking and problem-solving strategies; and college academic requirements and standards.
Ability to strengthen the physics and astronomy programs by revising curriculum and increasing enrollment.

Candidates must possess a commitment to encouragement of learning and an enthusiastic attitude toward learning; sensitivity to teach students from diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, including the disabled, who may have wide ranges of abilities and needs; and a willingness to take initiative in co-curricular activities, special events, and division projects; a desire to participate in professional growth activities; and a willingness to participate in governance of the Division and the College.

Utilization of instruction technology in the classroom; and A willingness to participate in governance of the School and the College.
