TT, Integrative STEM Education - Truman State, MO

http://employment.truman.edu The School of Science and Mathematics and the School of Health Science and Education at Truman State University are seeking applicants for one full-time, tenure-eligible faculty position in Integrative STEM Education to start August 11, 2014. This joint position is expected to start at the rank of Assistant Professor. Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be prepared to support the Master of Arts in Education (MAE) programs in Science and Mathematics as they undergo integration with respect to some aspects of their curriculum and oversight. The responsibilities of this position include teaching a newly approved joint Management of Instruction course (STEM 608) to students in both degree programs; supervising internships and field experiences (travel is required); advising pre-MAE students in these two areas; working with other campus offices to recruit MAE students to science and mathematics; and teaching other courses (including introductory courses in science or mathematics or education) as needed or required depending on area of expertise. The successful applicant will also serve as a liaison between the two Schools, especially with respect to Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) policies and their implications for MAE programs in science and mathematics. Scholarly activity is expected consistent with the teacher-scholar model and may vary according to the area of expertise. Required Qualifications: • A Ph.D. in a STEM discipline or closely related field. • Evidence of sustained work or the potential for sustained work in STEM Education. • Evidence and/or demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness across a variety of courses (e.g., introductory STEM courses as well as graduate-level courses). • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills. • Commitment to the liberal arts and sciences as a teacher-scholar, with graduate student development and accomplishment as the highest priority. • Additional relevant experiences and preparation, including (but not limited to) prior secondary teaching experience, collaboration, consulting, and/or non-academic positions. Preferred Qualifications: • State certification at secondary levels (or eligibility for such certification) in a STEM discipline within the school of science and mathematics (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics) • Familiarity with the DESE policy environment. • Interest and/or experience in integrative STEM practices Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and education; benefits package includes life, health and disability insurance, retirement contributions, and reimbursed assistance for moving expenses. Awarding of tenure and promotion to Associate and Full Professor is based on success as a teacher-scholar; a policy on promotion and tenure is available upon request. Program: The School of Science and Mathematics at Truman State University consists of seven departments (Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics), with 85 faculty members and 12 staff members.
