Essential Functions of Position Include but are not limited to: teaching arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, statistics and other courses offered by the department; teaching in a variety of instructional settings and times (including days, evenings, and weekends); coordinating and overseeing the developmental mathematics offerings, assisting in the operation of the tutorial center at the Willow International Community College Center; serving on college and district committees; participating in student learning outcome development and assessment at all levels (course, program, and college); participating in curriculum development and program review; participating in the accreditation process; and otherwise fulfilling all the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required.
Minimum Qualifications An earned master’s degree in mathematics or applied mathematics; OR bachelor’s degree in either of the above AND master’s degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education; OR a valid California Community College Credential; OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency); AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications Teaching experiences including the breadth of courses taught, and the use of a variety of pedagogies; teaching experiences at the secondary or post-secondary level; experience with effectively integrating educational technology into classroom instruction; familiarity with the current curriculum and assessment standards in mathematics education as stated by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the American Math Association of Two Year Colleges (AMATYC); demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals; experience serving on campus committees; experience in the accreditation process; related work and professional experience; and potential for contributing to institutional vitality and growth.
Conditions of Employment 177 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits Starting salary is $51,992 – $78,276 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $1,945 is available. In addition, the district offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Selection Procedure Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates that meet the highest degree of desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview.
The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services and Campus President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the Campus President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
