A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required with postdoctoral experience preferred. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to quality teaching and student success. The primary responsibilities are teaching undergraduate physics courses and providing academic advising on the Dahlonega campus. The ability to teach introductory astronomy courses is desired but not required. Candidates must show evidence demonstrating an ability to implement a research program. As a component of the application, the candidate must provide plans for involving undergraduates in his or her own research or for generating other advanced projects for our physics majors. Service on campus and in the region is expected. Faculty members are evaluated on their effectiveness in teaching, service and professional engagement. The Department of Physics is a small, well-equipped department offering two Associate Degrees in Engineering, a B.S. degree in Physics and a Dual Degree in Physics-Engineering in collaboration with Georgia Tech. It produces about 20 B.S. graduates each academic year on the Dahlonega campus and has excellent success in placing its graduates into graduate programs, high-school teaching positions and technical jobs. UNG is a co-educational, multi-campus four-year liberal arts institution located about 60 miles north of Atlanta with a strong military tradition that is known throughout the Southeast for its teaching excellence.
