Position Summary: The Department of Physics and Astronomy seeks to fill a non-tenure-track instructor position beginning Fall 2015. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in physics or physics education with preference to candidates with graduate or postdoctoral experience in physics education research, particularly in the area of teaching assistant professional development. The initial duration of the appointment will be one year (12 months) with expectation of continuing renewal based on satisfactory performance. Responsibilities will include teaching general integrative science and physics courses (for example, ISP 209, PHY 231, PHY 183), and development of on-line course materials and assessment procedures related to these courses. These courses have typical enrollments of approximately 150-250 students per section. The teaching load will typically be two sections per semester. In addition, this position includes the implementation and maintenance of a TA professional development program in physics.

The salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Faculty: Minimum Qualifications

Support Staff: Minimum Requirements A Masters degree; an advanced degree in physics or physics education with preference to candidates with a Ph.D. and with graduate or postdoctoral experience in physics education research, particularly in the area of teaching assistant professional development. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding teaching and mentoring skills, strong content knowledge, excellent writing skills, and the ability to work with undergraduate students, grad students, faculty, and staff in a collaborative environment.

The candidate will have opportunity to work the Physics Education Research Lab at MSU (http://www.pa.msu.edu/research/physics-education-lab) on teaching and learning projects as interest and needs overlap.
