NTT- MCS Core Education Director at Carnegie-Mellon
The Mellon College of Science (MCS) at Carnegie Mellon University is home to 800 highly motivated, enthusiastic and intellectually driven undergraduate students majoring in programs in the departments of biological sciences, chemistry, mathematical sciences, and physics. We seek a talented individual who will advance collaborative efforts to oversee the implementation, assessment, and iterative improvements of the new core curriculum as the Director of MCS Core Education. This new core is built upon a commitment to the development of an MCS student as a scholar, professional, citizen, and person. An investment in, and commitment to, integration of education and student development is essential. This position requires significant independence as well as collaborative efforts with the faculty members who have been engaged in the ongoing multi-year planning process to develop the new core curriculum. This is a special faculty position that reports directly to the MCS Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies. Appointment to the teaching-track faculty may be considered dependent on qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate must have the ability to teach science or mathematics at the university level and hold an advanced degree. Three or more years of experience in advising, teaching and curricular development and grant writing are preferred. Teaching opportunities affiliated with this position are initially in team teaching two new MCS seminars at the first year and junior levels. Research opportunities are limited to educational initiatives. Superior skills in organization, communication, and interpersonal relations are required.
