Kishwaukee College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track engineering and physics instructor to teach within a rapidly-growing department. The anticipated start date for the full-time engineering/physics faculty position is 12 January 2015. This position reports to the Dean of the Mathematics, Science and Business Division. The instructor will have the opportunity to teach a variety of upper-level physics (majors and non-majors algebra and calculus based) and engineering courses, including Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Engineering Graphics, and Circuit Analysis. The course load for instruction will also include associated laboratory sections. The successful candidate should be able to work with students from a wide range of academic preparedness and collaborate with other faculty in professional activities. The normal teaching load is 17 contact hours (3-4 courses) per semester, which may include some evening or weekend classes

Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to education. The full-time faculty member will be responsible for preparing and delivering instruction for 21st century learners and assessing student learning outcomes as appropriate to ensure academic quality. The candidate will be an engaged learning facilitator/instructor who will utilize a range of teaching and learning strategies to foster active learning and student success, which contributes to the fulfillment of the College's strategic goals. Successful candidates are expected to participate in activities or on committees that contribute to the success of students. Some activities include: maintaining a required office schedule, participating in professional development activities, performing course-related and departmental assignments, specifying and maintaining laboratory equipment, assisting in curriculum development, advising students, actively supporting course and program assessment, and contributing to departmental, campus and college efforts to ensure student success. 

The successful candidate will have the desire and ability to work with new educational technology, and will have prior experience in development of curricula in physics and/or engineering. Candidates must exhibit an effective teaching style that supports a diverse student body. A commitment to Kishwaukee College's goals and philosophy is expected. 

Required Experience:
  • Masters Degree in Engineering or Physics
  • A minimum of eighteen (18) graduate-level semester hours of coursework in pure engineering or physics
Recommended education/experience:
  • Bachelors degree in the complementary field (Physics or Engineering) highly desirable, along with a strong mathematical background
  • Community college teaching experience preferred
  • Candidates must communicate effectively in spoken and written English
  • Background or industrial experience in practical aspects of engineering is strongly recommended
