FT Lecturer at UC Irvine

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University California, Irvine invites applications for a Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment, which parallels the position of a tenure-track assistant professor. All candidates should possess a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy or equivalent field, a proven record of excellence in teaching and the intent to pursue creative activities. Candidates with an extensive proven record of excellence in teaching, and documented creative activities will be considered for the position of Lecturer with Security of Employment, which parallels a tenured professorial appointment.

The successful candidate will teach two physics or astronomy lower division courses per quarter and contribute creatively to the department’s educational mission.  Contributions might be through curriculum development, public outreach or the implementation and evaluation of effective instructional pedagogy. The outcomes from these creative activities will be published in scholarly Journals or disseminated in other appropriate ways.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a list of publications and creative activities, and a teaching portfolio that includes a description of the applicant’s university-level teaching background and philosophy and examples of student teaching evaluations.
