The Physics Department at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in physics or astronomy education research with the appointment beginning in Fall 2015. The successful candidate will establish a research program involving students and participate in activities of the Catalyst Center for the Advancement of Research in Math and Science Education. Qualifications The successful candidate will: · have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or science education at the time of appointment, (postdoctoral experience preferred), · have experience and strong commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse population of students in courses across our curriculum, · be expected to develop an active, externally funded research program, and · be expected to interact effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. The College The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) is dedicated to the principle that student learning and research are closely linked. CNSM jointly supports (with the College of Education) the Catalyst Center for the advancement of research in teaching and learning math and science, which brings together science and math education experts across two colleges and seven departments to advance research in teaching and learning. The Department The Department of Physics offers a B.S. and M.S. degrees. The Department currently has over 100 undergraduate majors, over 20 MS students and 12 full-time faculty. Department faculty expertise includes observational astronomy and gravitational-wave astronomy, including neutron-star astrophysics, and black-hole simulation, and LIGO detection, surface and condensed-matter science, atomic and molecular collision science, experiment and theory, fiber-and quantum-optical science, and physics education research. The Department has a new Gravitational-Wave Physics and Astronomy Center with a mission to support and grow gravitational-wave research on campus.
