FT Instructorship at Whitworth University, Spokane WA

[Editor's note: there is also a tenure-track position advertised by the same department; it is slightly outside the scope of PER Jobs]
The Department of Physics at Whitworth University is seeking qualified applicants for a lecturer position for the 2016-2017 academic year.  The lecturer position is a 9-month, non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of renewal.  There are no research, advising, or governance expectations for this position.
Application review begins October 4, 2015.  The position will remain open until filled.
 The Institution
Founded in 1890, Whitworth has been consistently ranked among the top regional colleges and universities in the West. In its strong liberal arts undergraduate and graduate programs, Whitworth unites a robust commitment to Christian mission and service, academic rigor, and care for students. A community of Christian scholars carries out the universitys mission to provide its diverse student body an education of the mind and heart to enable students to honor God, follow Christ, and serve humanity.
 The Department
The purpose of the Department of Physics is to provide our students with an academically rigorous education in physics and its application.  This takes place in a context of committed Christian faith, intellectual challenge, and holistic mentoring.  We seek to prepare students for careers in which they will explore the laws of the natural world that God has made, share the details of that creation with others, and apply technology to serve the needs of the world.  The department currently has four tenured or tenure-track faculty and one full-time lecturer.  We graduate 15-20 undergraduate students each year.  The majority of our students earn a B.S. in Engineering Physics, a B.S. in Physics, or an engineering degree through our dual degree (3-2) partnership program.

Lecturer Responsibilities
The anticipated load consists of two lecture sections and three laboratory sections each semester.  The majority of this load will be teaching calculus-based introductory physics.    Depending on qualifications, the lecturer may also be given responsibility for coordinating the introductory physics lab teaching team.  The lecturer may also teach a course satisfying the natural science general education requirement for non-science majors (examples include geology, oceanography, astronomy, or physical science for elementary education majors).  Depending on lecturer qualifications and department need, the teaching load might occasionally include a sophomore-level analog electronics laboratory or engineering statics course.
