The Dewar College of Education invites applications for the Director of the STEM Center for Excellence. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services at Valdosta State University and is responsible for creating and implementing activities to encourage deeper understandings and sustainable interest in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The director is charged with creating and sustaining a positive, safe, and innovative learning environment; maintaining liaisons with school systems, universities, outside agencies, organizations, and other partners; developing partnerships with area schools and coordinating programs for elementary, middle, and high school students; assessing outcomes of programs and projects, reflecting and making adjustments for continuous improvement of processes, methods, and student experiences; fully supporting a commitment to addressing the achievement gap for students of color, students living in poverty, and English Learners through STEM activities while increasing the achievement of all students; assuming a leadership role in researching, obtaining, and maintaining grants and other funding sources; managing the activities and facilities of the Center; and coordinating high quality professional learning activities for university faculty, staff, and administrators and school system personnel.
Required qualifications include a masters degree or higher; two years of K12 school experience; experience securing funds through writing grants and partnerships; experience coordinating high quality professional learning activities; experience developing community and business partnerships; experience coordinating STEM initiatives; four years administrative experience.
