PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Ph.D. in any sub-discipline of Physics or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred at time of appointment. Applicants with progress towards doctorate degree completion by appointment date will be considered. Completion of terminal degree is required prior to the start of the second probationary year following initial appointment.The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
- Successful undergraduate teaching experience or evidence of promise as a teacher at the University level (preferably documented in one or more letters of recommendation);
- Potential for effective teaching or teaching experience using a variety of methodologies;
- Commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds;
- Record of, or potential for, involving students in research and scholarly activity;
- Interest and/or ability to teach a broad range of courses (majors, general education students, etc.); and
- Willingness to participate in the development of online learning experiences.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Ability to teach Physics courses across our curriculum;
- Experience mentoring undergraduate students in Physics projects.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a strong research record. Dedication to superior undergraduate instruction is a long-standing tradition at Humboldt State and in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Instructional assignments may include: lectures, activities and/or laboratory instruction in both lower and upper division Physics courses, as well as General Education courses. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are teaching; research, scholarship and creative activity; and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
