Open Rank Professor position – Physics Education

The UAB Department of Physics, www.uab.edu/physics, invites applications for an open rank, non-tenure track faculty position on Physics Education (innovative curriculum and lab development).  We are interested in candidates who can translate the findings of physics education research into best teaching practices for the UAB-Physics program, assess their impact on the UAB student population, and build learning communities (live and virtual) that help implement our educational goals. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the design of innovative courses and curriculum material (e.g. physics for life sciences or physics via case studies), discovery-based research courses and inquiry-based laboratories, peer-led teaching methods and student-centered learning processes, incorporation of evidence-based teaching practices and active learning environments, and integration of emerging educational technologies in the curriculum. Initially the focus will be on our introductory-level courses and labs, while later it will shift to upper-level courses for physics majors and other biophysics-related concentrations within the major.  Candidates with a Ph. D. degree in physics or other STEM fields that is coupled with additional training or experience in education research, including DBER, are invited to apply.
